Vita di Fra Girolamo Savonarola, [15--].

Manuscript biography of Savonarola, written in an Italian hand of the first half of the 16th century, with numerous scribal abbreviations. The text has wrappers consisting of an illuminated vellum leaf from a 15th-century commentary on the Civil Law. Bound in mottled heavy paper boards. Page 1 begins: Incomincia la uita del Rdo P. fra Hyeronimo da Ferrara dellordine [dei] frati predicatori. Page 77 ends: p[er] el fuoco et p[er] lagua so[no] passati al Regno de beati: doue uiuan co[n] Christo p[er] infinita secula: amen. At head of p. 78 is the caption: Miracula viri Dei Hyeronimi, followed by a list in Latin of 68 miracles, arranged in mostly chronological order (the 67th dated 1523, the last miracle undated). Text ends on p. 89: o[mn]ia retulit fratri Angelo Bettino. Although a note in Italian on the front pastedown attributes the work to Pico della Mirandola, the text differs from that of both of the known early biographies of Savonarola, by the younger Pico della Mirandola and by Burlamacchi. Title from cover. Laid in are 10 leaves of manuscript notes, including a signed note by George Lincoln Burr on related Cornell theses, and an outline of a thesis on the early biographies of Savonarola, followed by a list of biographies of him from 1548-1907.
